Insight into Twenty Years of Liuli ¨C Loretta H. Yang: Realization of Proof
Color-free Liuli Flowers Dazzle Chicago

Professionals from the international glass world including artists and gallery directors converged in Chicago this past November 2, 2007 to attend the Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Exposition (SOFA). In addition to the Leo Kaplan Gallery in New York and Musee de Conches in France, SOFA marks Loretta H. Yang¡¯s third international exhibition invite this year.

A distinctly Asian artist, Yang showcased eight large-scale ¡°flower¡± themed pieces at the exposition including the "The Flowers are Beautiful and The Moon is Full" and "The Proof of Awareness" series. The exhibited work stays true to her twenty-year theme of exploring the beauty in life and tragedy of impermanence. Yang¡¯s work is the embodiment of true Eastern philosophical spirit.

The Flowers are Beautiful and The Moon is Full series utilizes the unique characteristics of the lost-wax technique to produce vibrant colors and complex forms in expressing the popular Chinese sentiment of luck and happiness. The Proof of Awareness series with its removal of all color implies the Buddhist notions of ¡°void¡± and ¡°lack of¡±. It is this realization that leads to a greater understanding of compassion and caring. The ¡°The Proof of Awareness¡± series debuted this past March at the Leo Kaplan Gallery and was immediately acquired by the Corning Museum of Glass and Museum of Arts & Design, New York for their permanent collections.

All eleven pieces of these two collections were presented simultaneously at the Marx-Saunders Gallery, one of the most prestigious galleries in North America. Exhibiting alongside Yang included Ulrica Hydman-Vallien (Sweden) and Vladimira Klumpar (Czech). Three female Liuli artists from three different corners of the world converging in Chicago ¨C this will go down as one of the year¡¯s most exciting exhibitions.

Loretta H. Yang at Marx-Saunders Gallery will run until February 2008.
