0:57 The Explorer — Donghai Guan From Liuli China Museum
The Explorer is a tribute to humanity's exploration of the universe as a superior life form. The work employs mortise-and-tenon components that resemble silver ingots, building a spacecraft-like structure, which represents human ingenuity in constructing pathways to the unknown. Here, the traditional Chinese art of sunmao (a joinery technique without the use of nails or glue), is not merely structural but a representation of different shapes combining into a whole. Similar to how human intelligence gathered knowledge, power, and belief to tread into the cosmos. The “operator” at the center becomes the heart of this design, signifying that humans are both creators and seekers of self-awareness within our vast universe.
