1:17 The female - Eric Bonte’s spiritual muse From Liuli China Museum
The female - Eric Bonte’s spiritual muse.
Tied Up and Liberated Women turn his previous colorful body of work on its head. Set in moody black, elevated gold and tranquil white, Bonte taps into the strength of the female with breathtaking boldness. For perspective, one must know that the artist was born in France.
Tied Up betrays no joy - her voice is taken away by moody darkness; she cups her ear as if to block out the world’s disdain; elevated gold binds her body. Has the soul been put in chains simply by living?
Take a look at Liberated Women from the same series. Without its gold fetters, the body contorts even more so and the facial expression is obscured. Ask yourself, does the release from these fetters mean the soul is truly free?

“The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it”
(Oscar Wilde)
On first sight, this sculpture appears as if it is independently balanced like a ballerina on pointe shoes. Already evoking a sense of wariness due to its inverted positioning, the haphazard slashings filled with gold only serve to increase our curiosity.
Bonte has made this work into the shape of chalice, known as the symbol for femininity. If we take a closer look, we notice the hourglass figure of this triangle; we are actually looking at the hidden silhouette of a woman. With this realization, the golden outlines take on an unexpected meaning. He mischievously beckons us with the promise of the intimate, the forbidden and the coveted. “The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it” (Oscar Wilde). Though this triangle is „prohibited‟, shall we still approach? Do we dare??
