Life Blossoms from Where There Once Was None

Death was the recurring theme in the literary work of nineteen year old Chang Yi. A weighty subject for one of such young age, it drew from his early diagnosis of Primary Vascular Lesions and deeply affected his outlook and insatiability for life.

The feeling of helplessness that derived from this disease became creative fodder.

Under a fierce 1400°C heat, liuli becomes molten. The artist manipulates and pours it within a sand mold and as a metaphor for life, encourages it to flow freely as it struggles with and adjusts to the flower within.

From sand, a vase takes shape and as the flower blossoms, it pulls away and breaks free. A new form of life emerges from fiery flames in grandiose beauty; life blossoms from where there once was none.
