1:37 Rebellion within elegance Passion within tranquility From Liuli China Museum
Born in 1984, Juliette Leperlier hails from a centuries old glassworking family. As a child, she played amongst her father’s kilns and when she was older, she became his assistant. But she wasn’t always comfortable taking on the family business.
Juliette attended La Sorbonne where she avoided the study of glass art. She encountered every other medium and after realizing that she felt most at home with hands-on sculptural art, she found herself more and more drawn to glass. Pleased with its malleability and unpredictability, she finally let go of her internal struggle when she inherited her father’s studio upon his passing in 2014.
She also inherited his imminent deadlines. Thrust into the premier tier of pâte de verre, she committed herself fully to the form and upheld her father’s obligations. The same year, though she was not yet 30 and at the very beginning of her career, Juliette received the prestigious Ateliers d’Art de France Prix.
She is a 21st century poet: concerned about social issues, informed about philosophy, passionate about music theory with a thorough background in applied arts. A great admirer of ballet, she embeds her sculptures with the lithe lines and graceful stillness of dancers; each piece is defined by its continuous fluidity that seems to flow after the glass has set.
