1:00 Echinoïda From Liuli China Museum

     |     EN

“Echinoïda” literally translates to “sea Urchin” from Latin, this series is a testament of the artist’s skills.

If we look at the protruding nails, we must note that they were not embedded after the sculpture had already set. Rather, they were fired together in the kiln. This presents a great challenge as the artist must know precisely what temperature the glass and metal will fuse together. The chance of failure is high since the nails could melt into lumps of metal at any minute.

She illustrates the unfurling process of a sea urchin, likening it to a flower. This series is particularly appealing because of the vibrant colours and paradox of its size. The crash of waves are colliding within the violent blue. Despite its diminutive stature, we can hear with longing, the call of the sea.
