1:12 Effusion II From Liuli China Museum

Effusion is one of the most important pieces in our exhibition. It is the one Juliette chose as her personal representation. She says that in France, one says « effusion de joie » when one lets go of one’s feelings. She states, and I quote, “Right now I feel accomplished in my work, I’ve managed to move past technical restrictions and can create freely without worrying about the feasibility of my piece”.

This brings to mind another quintessential French saying, “Joie de Vivre”, which literally means, joy of living. We must find the joy in everyday life by appreciating the small and mundane details. Our days are precarious and so are her sculptures. Look at how many of her pieces balance themselves so precariously. They mirror the fragile material they were produced in. They could easily fall and shatter. Much like our own lives; one insignificant nudge at the wrong time, could send us into coils of disarray.
