You can almost imagine the ribbons of colour will continue to spiral and grow if you turn away but for a split second. The pieces seem to be twisting out of control, as if the temperature had fortuitously cooled down to freeze the glass in this exact shape.
This series is an ode to freedom as Lerperlier embeds her artwork with the privilege of choice. Any movement will provoke unpredictable swinging side to side before the sculptures arbitrarily right themselves.
This paradox of captured fluidity embodies the eternal quest for freedom β the struggle between progress and complacency: our own internal conflict to take the next step or to stay immobile.
