1:03 Vice Versa From Liuli China Museum
Vice Versa is the Latin phrase for “the other way around”. Her artwork seems to flow into one another; you cannot tell which is the beginning and which is the end. Juliette uses it as a pun because her sculptures resemble spheres: no angles, no edges, no starts, no stops, just one continuous surface. There is no other way around. There is only roundness.
This brings to mind the immortal words of American Poet, T.S. Eliot, “In my beginning is my end. In my end is my beginning”. Vice Versa is concisely defined by this quote: the beginning and the end are one and the same. The wheel of fortune ever turns. Juliet takes this existential struggle and baffles us by succinctly encapsulating it in ridges and caverns that promise knowledge and answers. Even the colours she employs are mystifying, adding to the allure of the unsolvable puzzle.
