LIULU CHINA MUSEUM was founded by renowned filmmakers Loretta Yang and Chang Yi, who are also the operators of LIULIGONGFANG. Chang Yi, a famous director, directed a trilogy of women's films that wrote a glorious chapter for the new wave cinema in the Taiwan region; Loretta Yang has won the Golden Horse Award for Best Actress twice and the Best Actress at the Asia-Pacific Film Festival.

In 1987, the couple made a splendid transition and established the first glass art studio by Chinese people - LIULIGONGFANG. They regard glass art as their lifelong career. For them, the significance of glass art is extraordinary. It is not only the Chinese glass craftsmanship that was lost for over 2,000 years, representing the profound and enduring Chinese culture, but also the transparent and tranquil contemplation of life wisdom in Eastern philosophy, as well as the inclusive Chinese philosophy's reflection on impermanence.

In 2006, Loretta Yang and Chang Yi established the first glass art museum in Shanghai; in 2010, the museum relocated to No. 25 Taikang Road. From this point on, LIULU CHINA MUSEUM has gathered the works of the world's most renowned modern glass artists. In their hearts, they aspire to restore the Chinese culture, once the pinnacle of arts and crafts, to its former glory on the world stage. Culture is a symbol of dignity in the hearts of the Chinese people, and the revival of arts and crafts signifies its continuity. This deep-rooted, earnest expectation is also an urgent need for the Chinese people of this generation.

Founder's Expectation: Glass is not just a material, but a spirit, a form of life, and a culture. LIULU CHINA MUSEUM will become a permanent, international platform for art exhibitions, cultural and creative exchanges, and design communication, as well as a base for the cultural and creative industry.
