Exclusive Interview by the Xinhua News Agency
The founder of the LIULI China Museum and artist Loretta Yang
talks about creation and cultivation, with a series of golden sentences!

In a recent exclusive interview with a reporter from Xinhua News Agency, Loretta Yang, the founder of LIULI Workshop and an artist, delved into how she uses LIULI as a medium to interpret Eastern wisdom and life experiences. She said, “Only by seeing one’s own shortcomings in the works can there be the next creation.” Such self-reflection and humility are exactly the reflections of her years of creation and life journey.

01 LIULI, the “Visible Void”

The artist shared that the transparency and fluidity of LIULI have enabled her to find a way to express her inner philosophical thoughts.

“The bubbles in LIULI are like the breath of life, resembling the uncontrollable changes.”

02 Art, a Spiritual Cultivation

“Art is not about pleasing others; it is about self-cultivation.”

This statement reveals Loretta Yang’s core belief in creation. What LIULI carries is a sense of compassion, tolerance, and inner peace, a profound presentation of “mind nature” and “wisdom” in Eastern culture.

03 An Artistic Language that Transcends Culture

In 2015, at the French Art Biennale, Loretta Yang’s works were selected for exhibition.

“I was worried whether the audience would understand. To my surprise, they said, ‘This is a stabilizing force that French society needed at the time.’”

This experience made her realize that when art comes from the heart, it can transcend language and culture to reach people’s hearts directly.

04 From the Forbidden City to the Contemporary — Conveying the Beauty of Culture

In 1993, Loretta Yang became the first modern LIULI artist to exhibit at the Forbidden City in Beijing.

“Our entrepreneurship aims to convey the beauty of Chinese culture through LIULI.”

After the exhibition, a remark from a viewer left a deep impression on her: “For the first time, I felt that China could be so beautiful.”

Loretta Yang was invited twice, in 1993 and 1998,
to hold exhibitions at the Forbidden City in Beijing.
