The cultural gap between East and West fail to oppress our empathy of each other’s desires.
Neither are the borders of Art deterred due to distance.

This has been a historic year! Due to the pandemic, the dynamics between individuals, and nations have been forced to evolve. We have already witnessed countless changes. Despite these changes, those who can lean into their deepest strength and retain their creativity, will still command the fortune of craftsmanship without fear of barriers.
If we examine the countries with thriving artistic glass scenes, they all share a rich and plentiful tradition of industry. British glass art is no exception. After the Industrial Revolution gradually faded, the collective post-secondary education institutions have since, successfully nurtured generation after generation of outstanding creative talents. To date, the United Kingdom is praised not only for having the highest percentage of people employed in cultural or creative fields, but also for the unique style, variety, and strong creative foundation of their glass art.
In 2019, Liuligongfang continued its 33 year tradition of introducing relevant international glass art to Asia. We successfully held an exhibition led by Colin Reid which spanned three generations of British art and showcased nine individual artists’ repertoire. The exhibition at the Liuligongfang museum in Taipei stunned art collectors and corporations alike. Nearly half the works displayed were collected. The highlight of our prestigious exhibition this time around, is a rare new working by none other than Colin’s mentor, the legendary Keith Cummings.
Colin Reid was invited in 1995 to exhibit his work at the Liuli World Art Exhibition, hosted by Liuligongfang, in Taipei. This became the first time his work was collected by a Taiwanese collector. After 24 years, Colin's creations have grown more mature and diverse. He has also become a leading figure in contemporary glass art and is viewed as an influencer by young British glass artists.
The 2019 exhibition in Taipei, led unexpectedly to a collaboration between two renowned artists. Having heard of and admiring her more than 20 years ago, Colin Reid expressed interest in collaborating with Loretta Yang, a household name in China. Together, they achieved an artwork that integrates East and West.
Colin, an expert at creating hidden images through optical refraction, meets Loretta, who has spent numerous years nurturing her poetic technique. What kind of dialogue can these two distinctive artists from opposing cultures and artistic roots, possibly rouse?
To be unveiled one year after its inception, in this historical year of 2020, at the Liuli China Museum: witness the cultural exchange between East and West in this collective exhibition that transcends generations!
