2:20 What is being an artist? From Liuli China Museum
What is an artist? Choosing to be an artist is to choose a life filled with doubts, questions, failures, sensitivity and risk.
Choosing to be an artist when your father, your uncle and your great grandfather are world renowned in the same field is infinitely more daunting. While you have the benefit of knowledge and experience passed through the generations, you have the added burden of proving that you are worthy of something as inherent as your name. Are you a worthy candidate to uphold legacy and redefine it on the modern stage?
Juliette Leperlier quickly discovered that the foremost challenge was to break free from the weight of her dynastic name and instill her own artistic expression. She is the only woman in this famous lineage of pâte de verre artists. She learned from her father and uncle, who learned from their grandfather. She has succeeded in adding her own signature. The forms she creates are delicate but full of volume, some of them are almost anthropomorphic. They inspire familiarity as if they were someone you have known forever. Juliette Leperlier represents a new generation of French glass artists, daring to be herself. She has a name, but most of all she has a first name.
Showcasing her artworks for the first time in Asia, it is very moving for us, the gallery capazza to be associated with the Liuli China museum. My parents were the first gallerists to present Antoine and Étienne Leperlier, and my husband, Denis and I are the first gallerists to introduce Juliette. Generations of passion, of energy dedicated to Art, so that we can all be moved by a simple form, entranced by sweet lines and volumes, or charmed by an enchanting color. Juliet Leperlier offers us nothing less than an universal language that must be shared.
